IPL works by pigment. The device sends a broad spectrum flash of light through the skin surface, the melanin in the hair absorbs it and converts it to heat, and that heat reaches the follicle. Because the process depends on there being more pigment in the hair than in the surrounding skin, it works best on dark hair against light to medium skin, and it does not work on white, grey, red or very fair blonde hair at all. That is physics, not a limitation of this particular device, and it is worth knowing before you buy anything in this category.

Lune adds a chilled contact plate to the flash window. Each pulse is a burst of energy against the skin, and cooling the plate makes that far more comfortable, which in practice is what determines whether people finish a full session or stop partway through the second leg. A skin tone sensor reads the contact area before firing and will not flash on a tone outside the safe range.

Intensity is adjustable across several levels so you can start low on sensitive areas and work up as you learn what your skin tolerates. Two modes cover different jobs: glide mode fires continuously as you move across a large area like a leg, and single flash mode targets small precise areas like the upper lip or the line of an eyebrow. Protective goggles are included and should be worn every session.
